Personal Work: Human Forms Practice

    Decided to take a break from drawing dragons but considering the nature, probably shouldn't do too many of this nature. This piece is still very much a work-in-progress and an attempt at refining my ability to paint humans and especially my ability to create humans who don't wear skintight outfits. The soldier on the left was created by use of a colour layer over a values layer while the man on the right isn't as complex, consisting of flat colours with shaded colours painted on top.

Personal: Design Practice

More practice drawing and brainstorming with design ideas. I think I prefer the secondone for its less conventional features. I also wanted to have a go at drawing distant buildings, landscapes and sky, as well as practicing with a few brushes such as pointed ends, but clouds in particular as I have returned to working on Infiltrate Exploit Spread. I want the clouds for the first scenes to look their best so I used these concepts to sneak a little cloud-painting practice in.

Personal: Photoshop Practice

More painting practice. But also unlike other drawings, above was made purely on Photoshop rather than using a sketch as a template. While I had originally planned for the physique to be a rough Idea, something perhaps stemming from my life-drawing classes compelled me to draw the musculature in detail.

 With the musculature down I used a different colour to sketch up the outfit, the nonhuman tail and feet posed some logistical challenge when it came to mapping out the footwear.

Not entirely finished but this stage of the drawing provides a cross-section of how I composed the colours of the piece. The key feel I wanted from the outfit was a sense that it was sophisticated, futuristic, but would not fall into the fashion prediction traps suffered by shows such as Star Trek.

I looked at styles fro mthe past to look for patterns and noticed that as time went on, the outfits worn by the upper echelons of society became less gaudy and elaborate. While puffed shoulders and ribbed undercoats were the height of Tudor fashion, the male elite of Victorian society settled for dress uniforms or velvet-lined suits. Those suits evolved further to to the suits popularly seen in today's award ceremonies which ditced the tweed, the top hats, the elaborate tails and the waistcoats and settled for more uniform and finer fabrics. It posed the question of what a suit of an older and less human society would look like.

Thinking about it now, I should go back and alter the outfit further. While the character isn't actually wearing a his answer to a fine suit, I could probably lose the brestplate and replace it with something else. His left coat sleeve is also still bugging me.

Personal: Character Experiments

Not long after the final critI considered wanting to keep my skills sharp. Thus, I set a self-imposed charaacter design challenge. My aim was to create characters with forms that reflected their inner personalities.

I am promising myself however to try something other than dragons in the future, but these happen to be prior characters I devised with some friends outside the course. They are also all related to each other so there was another test of creating characters that could appear distinct but also linked to wach other.

Improved Animation Showreel

I did some tweaking on the soundtrack for my animation showreel to make it a little less gloomy or daunting, I hope this change is effective enough.

@Jackie @Phil Life Drawing Collection

First copy of my collected drawings this year. However I am questioning if I should also include my self-portraits and digital art studies in this document.
